Fordham's Amy Simidian Named First Team All-Atlantic 10 in Tennis

Fordham University senior Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, N.J./Henry P. Becton Regional) was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 for women's tennis in a vote by the conference's head coaches it was announced today. It is the second consecutive season that she has earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors.
Women's Tennis Comes Up Short vs. Xavier

Two weeks ago, the Fordham University women's tennis squad hosted Xavier University, falling to the Musketeers, 4-3. Today the two teams met again at the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Boar's Head Sports Club where the contest came down to the final singles match where Xavier's Alex Brinker defeated Fordham's Sarah Al in a three-set match to lead the Musketeers to another 4-3 win over the Rams.

The Fordham women's tennis team opened play at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships on Thursday with a 4-1 win over Duquesne University at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The seventh-seeded Rams won four singles matches over the tenth-seeded Dukes to advance to the next round where they will face Xavier on Friday at 1:00 PM.

Fordham senior Amy Simidian was honored in a special pre-match Senior Day ceremony by head coach Bette-Ann Speliotis Liguori and had a vocal group of friends turn out to support her for the final home match of her career. And she didn't disappoint her coach or supporters, battling back after dropping the first set to win in three sets and lead the Rams to a 5-2 win over Long Island University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.

It all came down to the final match, a match which went to a tiebreaker, but Fordham's Angelika Dabu couldn't overcome George Washington's Stephanie Wei as the Rams fall to the Colonials, 4-3, in a matchup of Atlantic 10 teams at the GW Tennis Center.

147 Fordham Student-Athletes Named to Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2012 semester

The Atlantic 10 Conference established a new record for number of student-athletes, with 1,637 earning Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction for the Fall 2012 semester. Among those honored were 147 Fordham University student-athletes, the highest representation among the conference schools, including five members of the women's tennis team.

Prior to departing on a Spring Break trip to Florida, the Fordham women's tennis squad traveled into Manhattan to face 51st-ranked Columbia University, falling to the Lions, 6-1.
